Distillation glassware

The main components of a disitilation set up are as follows, note these may vary depending on application and type of distillation;

Distillation flask

This is the container where the initial starting compound / mixture is stored, often in simple laboratory distillations this is a round bottom flask, A variety of heat sources may be employed for distillation including; hotplate and heating block or oil bath, an isomantle or a flame source such as a bunsen burner. In all cases extreme care must be taken when heating volatile and often flammable compounds.
