The viscometer measures torque from which the shear stress is calculated using the dimensions of the spindle selected.  It has a multispeed transmission which can change the angular velocity of spindle, which is used to calculate the shear rate.  The viscosity is then calculated using both the shear stress and the shear rate.  The instrument will display both the torque(%) and the viscosity(cP or mPa s).
