Checking a Schlenk line during use

During use of a Schlenk line, it is important to carry out various checks periodically. These ensure the continued safe and effective operation of the line, and allow for proactive planning of tasks which may need to be carried out.

The requirements of periodic checks will depend somewhat on how the line is being used. For instance, if the Schlenk line is being used to evaporate lots of solvent, then the need to check the solvent trap will increase in frequency. However, it remains prudent to carry out some level of checks, even when you do not expect to find any issues.
