Techniques

These descriptions and explanations of techniques are intended to describe the general way to perform a technique, and to explain some of the reasoning behind why the technique is performed in this way. However, it is not intended to be exhaustive, or to cover every aspect of every manipulation. We aim to give you enough detail to successfully carry out the operations in the lab, without choreographing every movement you make. Similarly, we aim to give you enough background to explain why and how the techniques work, without detailing all of the underlying physical and chemical principles. Seeking out more information on these principles is a sensible course of action, if you intend to become a practising practical chemist.
